Dawn Hessel Record

About the Sculptor

Specializing in representational figurative work and portraiture, in both bronze and stone, Dawn Hessel Record has been commissioned for public and private sculpture installations throughout the US, and as far away as Sweden. She is known for her ability to infuse her subject’s character and spirit into the life-like portraits she creates. Her sculptures are both realistic and compelling.

Most of her original work is more modern and stylistic, playfully exploring shapes and breaking away from the representational work commissions generally require.

Dawn was a senior art director for a marketing firm in Denver for 20 years. Her background in design enhances her sculpture and the compositions of reliefs.

Stone sculpture became Dawn’s preferred medium after attending a marble carving symposium in Marble, CO ten years ago where she was able to study under master stone carvers such as Madeline Wiener, Kazutaka Uchida, and Ann Cunningham. She has attended the symposium every year since.

Giving back to the artists community, she volunteered for 7 years as the Marketing and Media Administrator for the Marble Institute of Colorado, helping to promote and manage the internationally renown symposium, MARBLE/marble.
